Great Budget Card
By Jonathan J. Innerarity
If you don't have the dough for a nVidia 8800GTS/X or similar ATI HD card, then this baby will give you nearly the same performance for less than a quarter of the price. The X1950Pro does amazingly well in virtually any high end or next gen game that you throw at it. I'm running Crysis at 1280x1024 with very, very minor drops in frame rate. I have all the settings maxxed out and it still looks amazing. Crysis looked amazing on the card. It's hard to imagine that it could possibly look even more amazing.Feeling quite satisfied that it was able to handle Crysis at the highest setting the game would allow (you need a Direct X 10 card to access the Extreme configuration), I felt compelled to toss other games at it. Everything I could find, from Call of Duty 4, to Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter and everything in between ran beautifully. The crisp graphics are enabled by the larger 512 mb capacity for storing larger textures.I only have two complaints really, and neither has anything to do with the quality of the card:1. I did not get a packing slip with my order from Amazon, so I was unable to cash in on the rebate. That seems rather cheeky to me - and...2. You have to install this card as one of the LAST components on your motherboard. Make sure you buy a next gen CPU case for this bad boy. It's pretty big.Aside from those two minor issues, I strongly recommend this card to budget DIY pc builders. You get a lot of bang for your buck.
