4Great for the price
By Michael Watters
Let me start out by saying that the review which stated 'internal problems' makes no sense. No 'internal' problem will make this instrument not tune up properly. There are plenty of external issues which will affect the tuning and intonation, but I can think of no 'internal' shortcomings which would prevent proper set-up and tuning, etc. I am a Fender certified bass and electric guitar tech, and also work on acoustic instruments as well.In any event, you will need to set the bridge to the proper position on the head by using careful measurements and spacing of the strings, etc. It's not rocket science, but does require some care and patience. There is plenty of information on the internet on how to do this. The luthier workmanship on this instrument is very good. It's a beautiful banjo. Yes, it's a banjo, even though it has 6 strings. Sorry, purists, but it has a banjo sound resonating system, and not a guitar sound resonating system. It does lose points on the bridge, which needs the string slots to be better formed. The small E string kept popping away until I deepened the slot a bit. A pretty simple fix. The tuning machines are very good and hold the tuning well, although the strings are not first class. Set the bridge and intonation [action was good] and then put on some better quality strings. This will NOT sound exactly like a 5 string banjo, as the big E and A strings are too deep for a 5 string banjo sound. However, if you play on the DGBE higher strings only, you can get a good traditional banjo sound. Don't expect it to sound like a guitar, as banjos lack the sustain of guitars--they produce a much sharper and faster decaying sound. The fun factor here is high, and any guitar picker can have a lot of fun with this instrument if it's set up properly. The traditionalists will be knashing their teeth, but the pickers will be having some good times.

4You can't beat it for the price!
By G.S.
Double boxed and packed very well. Some of the flaws, if you want to call them that, appeared on my instrument.A couple of the blocks that hold the resinator were lose. Taken care of with a phillips screwdriver. One of the notches in the bridge was not cut properly. A quick fix with an exacto knife. Installing the bridge was easy. Measure from the 12th fret to the nut and place the bridge the same distance from the 12th fret to the bridge. Then use a electronic tumer to fine-tune the placement of the bridge while playing the note of the string at the 12 fret. The balance of the workmanship was very good. The only thing that was disappointing was that the strings were rusty. I had to invest in a new set of strings.G.S. Coarsegold, CA

4Better than I thought!
By Mr.Harry
I'm always happy to get more than I bargained for! What a nice banjo. All I had to do was unpack it, put on the strings and set the intonation and off I went. Within 20 minutes I was playing what turns out to be a much higher quality instrument than what I had imagined.
