Product Description

Why buy a trailmaster? That's simple. Because it is, without a doubt, the most knife for the money ever commercially built! In terms of sharpness, edge holding and strength, it will out perform "by a wide margin" any factory made knife we know of and 99% of all hand forged knives as well! We know we're "going out on a limb" with that statement, but since 1987 we have challenged the industry to make a better knife and yet, to this day, we've had no takers. So before you spend your hard earned bucks on one of our competitor's knives, take a moment to review all the advantages offered by the Cold Steel Trail Master. The broad clip point of the blade is extremely resistant to bending or breaking. This is largely due to the fact that the tip is actually thicker near the point than what is seen on our competitor's knives. This, however, does not mean that the point is dull or blunt. On the contrary, the point is almost needle sharp and offers tremendous penetration. Plus, the blade-back is equipped with a slightly concave false edge that measures approximately three and a half inches long. Every Trail Master's edge has been honed by hand, then given a high speed buff until it is truly razor sharp and capable of easily shaving the hair off one's arm. This knife is so sharp it will cut at the slightest touch. The Trail Master balances approximately 3/4" in front of the guard for a slightly blade-heavy feel that is ideal for delivering heavy chopping and slashing strokes. The Trail Master's Kraton handle is 5" long and deeply checkered for a non-slip, shock absorbing grip. What's more, its contoured cross section helps prevent the knife from shifting or turning in the hand when striking full power blows. The double guard is very study and rigidly fixed into place. It is long enough to keep fingers off the blade, yet short enough to avoid being tangled in clothing or equipment when the Trail Master is drawn.

5Great knife, light weight and excellent edge holding
By The Scorpio
I own alot of Cold Steel knives, I would say they design the best and most functional knives. I don't like their AUS 8 steel, and this one comes in their VG1 San Mai III, which holds an edge amazingly, you can chop down a small tree, without any change to the edge. I love the round edge, which has to be sharpened by hand with sanding belt and buffer; there is no step in the knife profile, but one continuous fluid cutting motion, that's the beauty of the round edge. The problem is that if you don't have a sanding belt, you will have to send it back ot the factory, or find a local knife sharpener, or simply get a canted edge on it, but you will lose the advantage of the convex edge. The knife is also surprising light weight for it's size, so it is good for back packing, I prefer a heavier design, that would offer more chopping power, but this one is just fine, and won't tire your hand.Overall, great knife. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

5Nice knife
By Gecko
Cold Steel San Mai Trail Master Kraton Handle (Cordura Sheath)Awesome knife. I have never had a knife this size other than a large butchers knife, pass the paper test like this. Slices unsupported strips off like a fine razor; no hitches, no snags, just smooth clean slices. As far as weight and balance: the weight is hefty enough to let you know there is a substantial tool in your hand, but not like the over weighted stainless steel knives I have used before. Balance: very nice; Some call this a chopper, but I disagree; I use Machete, Kukri and hatchet, and this knife doesn't feel like either. I have not used it as such yet, but I believe this knife would make an effective (agile) weapon in a knife fight. Edge retention is yet to be observed. given the VG-1 steel, and rolled edge, I expect it will be a while. Some say the handle material sucks. Handle material is strong and grippy enough to prevent hand fatigue for chopping, survival knife use. The tang goes through to the lanyard hole. If the handle material fails on mine, I'll just replace it with a self made custom stacked leather handle (see K-Bar). Sheath Looks like something my daughter made. It does the job for now, when it fails, I'll replace it with leather, if I don't find something better before that. The knife is expensive, but if you want quality design and steel, you gotta pay for it. I do and I did.

5Well crafted
By JT of VA
Mine is made in Japan and this Trail Master is excellently crafted. I did not see a bad thing to say about the knive, may be the Sheath could be improved to make it appear a little more substantial to go with the knive. Overall it is a masterpiece in design and craftmanship...Expensive but worth to own one...Kudos.
