Quality and style

I was looking for a classy college graduation gift under $100 and after extensive online shopping decided on this Cross padfolio even though the pictures were unclear and there was no review. What a lucky buy! The black leather isn't deeply pebbled but is thick, soft and the flap closure piece is cut from perforated leather (like race car upholstery) and wraps around to add interest to the back side. All stitching is practically invisible and the Cross pen that can secure the envelope closure (or store inside) is sleek, well-balanced and writes beautifully. To complete the elegance of this set a Cross lined tablet is included inside. A beautiful box allows for easy gift wrapping.I highly recommend this padfolio for quality and design.

great materials & style, but a functional failure

The inside expandable pocket isn't quite deep enough to fit a standard file folder without curling up the top (long) edge of the folder, and perhaps a bit of the paper inside. Loose leaf letter-size pages suffer the same fate - an external pocket would have been a nice addition, or an extra quarter inch of room in the pocket. A standard legal pad is a VERY tight fit in this padfolio - turns out the included Cross pad is 8.25 inches wide. Perhaps this product is designed around A4 paper dimensions?? US buyers beware.The included pen looks nice, but it's stubby - 4.75 inches capped, 4 inches w/o cap, 5.5 inches with cap snapped on open pen. The skinny ballpoint ink refills, not included, are a scant 2 2/3 inches long, labeled M 06/10, whatever that means - expect to refill often if you write a lot.The final straw for me is that the cap snaps onto the back of the pen so tightly that it's almost impossible to pull it off (it's easy enough to cup/uncap on the other end). You'd think that ninety buck product from a pen company would include a decent pen...I think I'm sending this back - which is a shame, since I like the style of it enough to justify the price.
