5The best office chair bar none
By S. Fry
After spending 14 years (literally) in my last Herman Miller Aeron, its left arm came off as I was hoisting myself out of it one day. 14 years is a helluva run, so instead of having it fixed, I decided to retire it, and upgrade to this top-of-the-line model. And I couldn't be happier. The fit and finish is every bit what you would expect. The polished aluminum is beautiful -- in effect, it looks like a monument to the Aeron, which is what it should be for $1,170. And being larger than my previous B-size model, I find it even more comfortable. The leather arm rests are a huge improvement over stock as well.Sure, $1,170 is an awful lot to spend on a desk chair. But if you spend as much time sitting in it as I do, it's simply worth it. Think of it this way: we spend 8 hours a day sleeping, so a great mattress is a great investment. Personally, I spend more than 8 hours a day at my desk, where ergonomics are even more crucial, so this purchase is easy to justify. And when the 12-year warranty is factored in, it's like paying $100/yr to ensure that you have the most comfortable desk chair on the planet. Highly recommended.

3Apparently defective and back it went
By Wood B. Hermit
NOTE: The "3 star" rating above applies to the specific NOT "ready-to-assemble" Aeron chair with "carbon wave pellicle" that I received from "Office Designs" in June 2012. As an existing Aeron chair owner for 15 years before this purchase (left arm finally broke off), I give Aeron chairs in general "5 stars" overall.Personally, I find it "quite ridiculous" and "unsatisfactory" to have to assemble anything whatsoever on a top-notch, very expensive item such as this. Requiring some assembly might be just fine for a $200.00 chair purchased from "Office Depot", but not on a $1,000.00 Aeron chair. You should be able to simply unpack it, adjust it and use it right away. My first Aeron purchased in the 1990s did come "fully assembled" and not just "ready-to-assemble".Nevertheless, bolting on the seat back did not seem to be a big deal; I have bolted together hundreds if not thousands of items during my lifetime without any problems whatsoever. If anything the PostureFit attachment/adjustment looked like it might require a bit more time to get just right.Well I never made it to the PostureFit. The holes on the seat back absolutely refused to line up with the holes on the chair frame to let me bolt the entire assembly together. All holes should align easily; excessive force should not be needed to accomplish this in a piece of quality craftsmanship such as this.Since I do not have the capability to reshape/remold the chair back to facilitate proper alignment, back it went to Amazon.com the very next day.I have now waited about 5 months (late November 2012) until the second of the two semiannual Herman Miller 15% off sales to finally order another Aeron. I ordered the same size C chair as described here on Amazon, but without the PostureFit (lumbar pad instead since I prefer higher rather than lower back support and also have had several people tell me of their dissatisfaction with the PostureFit option) and without the "purely aesthetic thrill" (serves no real purpose) of polished aluminum for an extra fee of about $200.00. I also added the combination carpet/hard floor casters. The aluminum may look nice and sharp - especially when the chair first arrives, but it's more than likely going to make the chair a higher maintenance item over time as you find yourself regularly polishing the aluminum to keep it nice and shiny as well as working to remove black smudges/heel marks, etc. from the aluminum base. The standard graphite base option is certainly more practical for everyday use. This time I ordered directly from "Smart Furniture" online; for an additional fee of about $40.00 (a pittance in light of the chair's total cost) they will send (free shipping) you any Aeron chair fully assembled to avoid any potential unexpected problem(s) such as those mentioned above. Free 30 day returns with free return shipping are included and - if you're willing to pay the return freight - you can even send any chair back for a full refund within 365 days!Ordering directly from the manufacturer, "Herman Miller", online, might also be a good idea. "The Herman Miller Store" ships all Aeron chairs fully assembled with no additional fee charged for doing so and also has a 30-day return policy with free return shipping, but no 365-day returns like "Smart Furniture".

5Nice chair but way too much cash ----UPDATED
By Dan
This is a great chair, but it is simply too much money. Luckily for me I had my company pay for it so cost wasnt an issue however it definitely isnt worth the price tag.Unless you are calling it "art" or "designer" and want it for that I would recommend a cheaper chair that provides the same amount of bum/back support as thisUPDATE--------------------------------------I have now owned this chair for over a year, and have spent well over 8+ hours a day sitting in it.I RETRACT my entire previous post. this chair is expensive and IT IS COMPLETELY worth it. I no longer complain about my back, legs, neck, etc. It no longer occurs to me that I am sitting in a chair working, now i am just working. Whenever I sit in a different chair to work it becomes very noticeable how nice the aeron chair is.
